Like a lot of people, I have looked for ways throughout my life to express myself. Although through the years, those ways have changed from time-to-time, the expression which has been most consistent has been through writing. I write in numerous genres and enjoy exploring who people are and what drives them. In so doing, I often find out who I am. Like most people, I believe I am on this earth for a purpose; I am not here by accident and believe God has a purpose for my life. I fill my days trying to fulfill that purpose, some of which I believe to be in the form of writing.
One of my greatest pleasures is comedy and I will go to considerable lengths to make a person laugh. Years ago, when I was sharing with a dear friend some issue with which I had been dealing, my friend laughed, which she often did, and said, “You know the fool in Shakespeare?” I responded, “I know where this is going, Martha.” My friend smiled and added, “Well, when you get to heaven, you’re going to be God’s fool.” Not to be outdone, I replied, “What makes you think He’s waiting?”
Yes, I am a clown at heart, which would probably explain my reactions to most situations. While in the beginning, I may have considered my life to be peppered with peculiar situations, I have since abandoned that conclusion and accept that I am the peculiarity. This became particularly evident to me years ago when one of my children stated, “Mom, it’s not that you march to a different drummer; your drummer is not even in the band.” Although my drummer may not be in the band, he does seem to appear in many of my works.
